Wait what, that’s almost 4 times its worth! They must known that Compacts are popular for drifting, or something. Though I doubt a 316 would drift.

Just checked, I would probably pay somewhere between €800-1000 to insure a similar car, for only liability coverage.

Haaa the UK and your car insurance insanity :)

So much choice for cheap in the UK, ruined by insurance companies!

I pay over $2500 annually... For two cars. One is brand new.

Why is insurance so pricey in Europe? I pay $1000 a year to insure a Mercedes SUV and a Ford F-250.

Good lord, there’s people worse than American insurance companies? I’m so very sorry.

I've always been kinda baffled by how insurance and tags works for you guys, with the tags staying with the car and all that weirdness. Neat little car though, hopefully you can get that price down a bit.

I’d probably pay €1.100 or more for the same car. Most of the guys my age at my school insure their cars by their parents as a second car.

Kinja'd!!! djmt1 > Twingo Tamer - About to descend into project car hell.
05/30/2016 at 07:54

I wonder if doing that for me would make any difference. Probably not, I don’t think the government, the insurers or people in general want more cars in London. We’re kinda running out of space.

It’s dependent on many factors, mine is less than half the price for double the power and I’m a couple of years older at best.

Maybe you’re older and have many years NCD?

Also, insurance seems to be different in America. If I understand it correctly, you don’t have to be fully insured and you can have a policy that puts a cap on third party claims, something we don’t have in the EU All policies must have unlimited third party cover.

Yeah but doing this, they force kids to buy crappy old cars, with no modern protection because insurance is way too much. It’s stupid... UK kids are not worse than kids in any other countries, no reason to charge them this much for insurance.

Whaaaaaaaaaa??!???? Holy shit that’s insane. I’m insured for my parent’s VW but it’s only like a €280 plus €95 for me. But that’s with a lot of rebates and my parents never had an accident or claim in 21 years. £1000 is still exorbitant.

Kinja'd!!!0

Ohhh, yeah that makes sense. It doesn’t put a cap on third party claims so much as it puts a cap on what my insurance needs to pay out. I suppose I would be responsible for the rest.

And tags = license plates. At least in Rhode Island, plates can move from car to car. I've got a plate that my grandfather had on an E Type and an XJS, then I had it on an XJ12 and a Mustang. I'm supposed to turn it in when I sell the car if I don't transfer it to another, but it's a low number plate, which is a desirable thing in RI. We're weirdos, haha.

It’s dogshit isn’t it?

How old are you? It’s significantly better once you hit 25.

If it’s a long way away, try speaking to your insurance company and seeing if they will mirror the no-claims on the Twingo with this car. Admiral did that with my MG F and it saved a ton.

Yeah its pretty bad. Im keeping it off the road for now while I fix her up. Im strangely enamored with this little car. I love that it still has that chunky solid feel the better german cars have while also being light and nimble. Plus being the smallest engine i have a good chance of running it reasonably when i get a bit older.
